The STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY field trip [ fight hardship with a greater hardship ]

Cuti dah nak habis baru nak update pasal field trip kan. Nak buat cemana mood datang tiba-tiba celah mana pun tak tahu. Cey ceyy ceyyy. Matang tak cara penulisan kittew sekarang? *paaaaaaaaangg! (kembali ke dunia realiti T__T)

Anyway, field trip pertama is on structural geology – roughly about folds (lipatan), faults (sesaran) and etc etc of other structure yang kitorang belajar masa semester 1 dulu. Memang berbuih jugak kepala otak cuba nak menyucikan karat-karatnye aduhainye cuba nak mengingat balik apa itu ‘en enchelon’ mahupun ‘conjugate’. Kekeke. *Sirius sampai sekarang pun masih samar-samar hahaha!*

measuring dip and strike of bedding and fracture

In case people might wonder what the hell is a fold.
tapi saya tahu korang tak ter-wonder pun kannn kannn kaaaaaannn.

The field trip covers the area along the highway from KL to Mentakab, Pahang for the first day and the area along the highway from Mentakab-Temerloh to Mersing, Johor on the second day. And from that day onward we spend our time at Mersing until the 6th day wuehuhuu! 6 days happen really fast that I can’t even remember on what day this happen.

what a sight kan.
boys do the pushing while girls do the side-watching.
saya? cuma duduk dalam bas menambahkan beban yang sedia ada. kuikuikui

And when I said along the highway, I mean LITERALLY – where the bus will stop dekat tepi-tepi jalan dan tiba-tiba keluarlah berbondong-bondong manusia macam pekerja tapak pembinaan dari bas. And sometimes when other cars pass by, they will honk us – staring, buat muka pelik. But thanks to the ‘construction-worker’ vest yang tertulis JABATAN GEOLOGI UNIVERSITI MALAYA kalau tak memang free-free je kena cop jadi contruction worker kuikuikui.

Dari satu sudut, saya rasa 2nd field trip is better than the 1st one – in term of the place. But dari sudut lainnya, the 1st one is still better sebab budak applied and budak pure went to the same field trip, naik bas ramai-ramai plus 1 van. So, the more is merrier aite?

our beloved Dr. Mus
hmm, cukup ramai tak ni? you can't even see me.

all are here
and yeah you can't see me again.

In the first picture, I was basically there, tapi entah tengah buat ape tah kat belakang tu. Tak sedar pun bila diorang ambil gambar ni. In the second, I wasn’t even there hahaha. The background looks like normal batu and tanah kat belakang tu, tapi actually to get there, you basically need to climb a veryyyyy steep slope – which I successfully avoided hahaha. And I’m the only one that is not in the picture (excluding the photog)

Dalam hati memang la dengan alasan tak sihat, so malas nak panjat-panjat ni – I was having slight fever on that day. Tapi hakikatnya, I was afraid of slope hahaha. Pelik kan ada jugak manusia macam ni – slopyphobia. And also afraid of height D: And thus, not wanting to show this side of me, and ummmm, yeahhhh… hahaha!

I successfully avoided the slope on the first and second day. Hmm, but not the days after and after. Dari hari pertama sampai hari ketiga, Cuma ada penerangan from the lecturers je tapi from the 4th day onward, we are expected to do the work on our own, in a group of five – making map 100m along the shoreline. Blur jugak mula-mula. Macam mana laahhh nak lukis map ni based on what we learn during the past three days. Take note, kitorang tak pernah belajar buat benda lukis-lukis map based on outcrop ni dalam kelas pun D:

And the slopes are getting steeper and scarier hahaha. Dapat pulak tempat yang happens to ‘sink’ faster than other place during the high tide. So our group basically have to climb all those steep rocks to get there in the morning sebab air belum surut  and also have to climb to get back sebab tak sedar air dah pasang balik – seronok sangat makan chacos sampai tak sedar air dah pasang lalalala.

during high tides, only higher and steeper rocks are exposed.

and during low tides, you still have to walk on the sharp edges of rock.
sobsobsob. 'sharp' as in you would hurt your feet if you have no
hard-soled shoes on. dapat bayangkan tak our hardship :'(

Yeah, it was a lot of hardship. Duduk kat tepi pantai dari lapan pagi sampai enam petang. Sampai muka get tanned and ada yang sampai burnt sebab tak pakai sunblock, nak pergi tandas pergi balik pun dah satu jam and nak makan and rehat-rehat pun kena sergah dengan biawak – though biawak tu lari dulu sebab terkejut tengok muka kitorang yang dah pakai sunblock macam pakai bedak sejuk. Hahaha.

Anyway, it was a fun experience jugak. It was our michelle yang buat most of the work. Saya mengakulah yang saya cuma buat simple errands macam tolong ikatkan tali, tolong ambil bacaan kompas and so on. Kekeke. Guess I’m more suitable to work in the office and perah otak on the theory rather than membanting tulang di field. =,=

At the end of the week, after all those hardship, there was somekind of feeling. The feeling of being accomplished? The feeling of satisfaction? Entahlah. Tak boleh nak describe with one word. After those hardship, rasa macam semua hardship sebelum ni, brokenheart ke, dah tak rasa apa. Fight misery with bigger misery and fight hardship with greater hardship – yeah that kind of feeling =) and you feel like you can do anything lepas tu -  you can go hiking, you can go bungee jumping *konon* haha. sebab with my personality, tak mungkin saya akan buat semua tu. errr.

this place is called Pantai Sri Mersing (kalau tak silap) and despite of all sharp-edge rock, there's still other beautiful landscape captured. which will be updated later. :) *too hungry too write more. it's 4.15 in the morning*

I should be sleeping. hukhuk. bye~
